Music contributes to award-winning “Edge of Life”

April 24, 2009

Poynter’s Kenny Irby just did a story on the Dallas Morning News’ award-winning multimedia project, “The Edge of Life,” which chronicled in words, photos, video and audio the stories of people near death. I wanted to point you to the project’s five-part video component, which melds all those elements and adds music to tell the story.

This is an excellent example of how skillful use of music can bring focus to the story at hand. It would have been easy to use music in a maudlin way, given the subject matter here. However, the music is fairly spare, with washes of pads and plaintive piano that don’t distract.

Very nice work!
